RSVP to our Medicare Educational Workshop
Most people can enroll during their Initial Enrollment Period (IEP).
Your IEP (Initial Enrollment Periord)
Starts 3 months before your 65th birthday month
Includes your birthday month
Ends 3 months after
Example: If you turn 65 in June, your enrollment window runs March–September.
You are automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B IF:
You are already receiving Social Security benefits before 65
You are receiving Railroad Retirement benefits
If not, you must actively enroll.
You can enroll through:
Online
Through the Social Security Administration website.
Call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213.
You will call the number above to make an appointment for a later date. Runs usually about 4 weeks out.
At your local Social Security office (appointments needed). You first call the number above to make an in person appointment.
You do NOT enroll through Medicare directly — enrollment is handled by Social Security.
If you have employer coverage:
If the company has 20 or more employees, you may be able to delay Part B without penalty.
If the company has fewer than 20 employees, Medicare may become your primary insurance.
It’s important to confirm whether your coverage is considered “creditable” before delaying enrollment.
You may face:
A lifetime Part B late enrollment penalty
Delays in coverage
Gaps in insurance
Penalties increase the longer you wait.
Medicare Part A – Hospital coverage
Medicare Part B – Doctor visits & outpatient care
Medicare Part D – Prescription drug coverage
Medicare Advantage – Private alternative to Original Medicare
Each option works differently, so understanding your situation is important before making decisions.
Costs vary based on:
Income
Work history
Coverage choices
Whether you add supplemental or prescription coverage
Part A is often premium-free if you worked 40 quarters (10 years).
Part B has a monthly premium that may vary based on income.
Medicare decisions can affect:
Your healthcare access
Your prescription costs
Your long-term retirement planning
Educational guidance can help you understand:
Your enrollment timeline
Whether you need to enroll now
How employer coverage coordinates with Medicare
If you delayed Medicare because you had employer coverage, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) when employment ends.
You typically have:
8 months to enroll in Part B
63 days to enroll in Part D without penalty
Proper timing is critical to avoid penalties.
Medicare decisions can impact your healthcare, finances, and retirement for the rest of your life. Getting clear, accurate information before you enroll helps you avoid costly mistakes.
Here’s why attending our workshop — in person or by video — matters:
